About

Who we are

Sutton Coldfield & District Dog Training Club is a not-for-profit, community group run by a team of volunteers. The club provides weekly dog training classes for all ability levels.

The club operates on a membership basis and aims to bring together, protect, and develop the interests of all members and their dogs.

To this end, the club organises, hosts and supports:

  • Weekly dog training classes for all levels from puppy to adult
  • The Kennel Club Good Citizen award scheme
  • Canine first aid courses
  • Annual Novelty Dog Show
  • Member social events

Charity Fundraising

As well as supporting local owners and dogs, the club supports many dog-friendly charities both locally and nationally.

Every year the club selects a number of canine charities who will receive all profits and donations received at our annual Novelty Dog Show.

In addition the club makes a charitable donation to each of the charities from member donations and contributions.

History

The Sutton Coldfield and District Dog Training Club was founded in April 1955 with the first classes led by Miss Doris Thorpe of Roughley. The club grew and has continued to thrive year after year (only pausing for brief periods due to foot and moth disease and Covid-19).

In 2002 the club started training its members for the Kennel Club Good Citizens Dog Training Scheme and many of our members are now the proud owners of Bronze, Silver and Gold awards. The club also has its own Diamond award for those who have completed all of the Good Citizen levels and wish to continue training.

In 2022 the Club started its next chapter with a move to a new home at the Sutton Coldfield Rugby Club grounds in Walmley.

Associate Membership

In addition to the standard membership levels offered by the club, we also offer an Associate Membership.  Please contact us for more information.
