Training

How does training work?

  • The club operates on a simple membership system with an annual fee. There’s no weekly fee, membership covers all training sessions for 12 months.
  • Dogs can participate in training once they’ve had their puppy vaccinations.
  • Each person wanting to train a dog requires their own membership with Sutton Coldfield & District Dog Training Club (membership is unique to the person and cannot be transferred). Joint owners of a dog each require their own membership.

  • Spectators are welcome on site to watch the training session and do not need a membership.
  • Anyone with an active membership can attend the weekly training sessions to train their dog.
  • All new members will start in our beginner level classes which start on the first Sunday of the month.
  • Anyone aged 11+ is entitled to join as a member and train their dog.

Training takes place in classes which work towards your dog achieving the different levels of The Kennel Clubs Good Citizen Scheme. The classes run at the same time and are led by an experience and dedicated volunteer dog trainer.

Is my dog too naughty?

We know that all dogs and owners can face specific difficulties or challenges in their training journey. A lot of obedience issues (such as pulling on the lead, jumping up, etc) can benefit from group training sessions. Certain behavioural struggles may require one-to-one support and group sessions may not be appropriate. If we feel this applies to you and your dog we will provide as much support as possible and may signpost to more appropriate support.

We do not condone or permit the use of harsh corrective methods or equipment (e.g. choke chains, pronged collars).
